My friends from Florida stayed one night. They’d come to our wedding in 2004 and had seen Wessel a few other times. I saw them alone a week ago and we talked about Lina a bit. But we didn’t talk about the transition at all when they were here, which I realize now is pretty odd in an elephant-in-the-room sort of way, but all in all I appreciated that it wasn’t the main event, the topic of conversation, the be all and end all. We were just us. But I did wonder, especially when we went out to eat twice, were they thinking, “whatever,” or “this is the freakiest thing ever; get us out of here.” Regardless, I appreciated their presence.
