Transgender rights law takes effect in Massachusetts

Yay that on July 1, the Massachusetts Transgender Equal Rights Act, which bars discrimination in employment, housing, education, and lending, went into effect. Now if only we can make discrimination on the basis of gender identity illegal in all states, just as it is on the basis of race or disability. I used to live in Massachusetts, so I feel particularly pleased about the new law. I think it will take my current home state of North Carolina another decade or two (OK, three) to follow suit, but it will happen, I’m convinced.
