This is just brilliant, as they say in England. One of the first Britons to undergo a sex-change received an MBE for her work toward gender equality. What the heck is an MBE, you ask? Well, judging from my research, it’s a “Member of the Most Excellent Order of the British Empire,” a very high honor. Read this wonderful article from the BBC News about April Ashley from Liverpool, who underwent “experimental gender reassignment surgery” in 1960 in Morocco.
